Another nearby name for the mountain is Tisé mountain, which gets from ti tse in the Zhang-Zhung dialect, signifying "water crest" or "waterway top", implying the mountain's status as the wellspring of the legendary Lion, Horse, Peacock and Elephant Rivers, and in actuality the Indus, Yarlung Tsangpo,Dihang,Brahmaputra, Karnali and Sutlej all start in the Kailash-Lake Manasarovar region
